Frequently Asked Questions!

Is there free parking for patients onsite?
Yes! There are plenty of spaces and it is complimentary.

Will I be on a treadmill for the breathing test?
No. You will be sitting on a chair for the PFT. If Dr Foley requires another test you may have to do walking in the corridor or running on a ramp outside (for athletes only).

Do I need an appointment or can I just walk in?
Yes, you do require an appointment. Call us on 441-261-5864 to arrange.

How do I get a referral?
If you want health insurance to pay (at least in part) for it, you must be referred to us by a local Bermuda physician (this can be either a GP or a specialist).
If YOU will be paying in full for it, or have overseas insurance like Cigna, then self-referral is permitted.

Are PFTs safe?
PFTs are very safe tests. The mild side effects may include coughing, sniffling, shortness of breath and tiredness. However, we require NO answers to the following questions in order to proceed safely.
• Heart attack or stroke within the last 3 months?
• Uncontrolled high blood pressure?
• Surgery of the stomach, chest or eye in the last 6 weeks?
• Collapsed lung or lung clot in the last 6 weeks?
• Aneurysm of the chest, brain or stomach?
• Chest or stomach pain with GTN spray usage?
• Coughing up blood?
• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or incontinence on exact day of test?
• Active TB?

Do I need to fast before my PFT?
Avoid eating a large meal prior to the test. A small normal sized breakfast is fine. Fasting not required.

Can I smoke before my PFT?

Please do not smoke on the morning of the test. This can make the test results inaccurate.

Do I need to complete a form before my PFT?

Yes, this will be emailed to you in advance. We would appreciate if you could complete this form prior to arrival.

What can I expect during my consultation?
You will be allotted 40 mins for your initial consultation and 20 mins for follow up visit.

Here, Dr Kimberly Foley will examine your chest using a stethoscope, take a medical history, check on allergies, medications, previous tests, hospital admissions, emergency visits and recent travel.

Dr Foley will decide on a diagnostic plan and give a timeline for when further testing should take place (e.g. have a blood test ASAP and a CT Thorax in 1 month).

Dr Foley will decide on a treatment plan and will fax any necessary  prescriptions to your pharmacy then and there.

What is my co-pay?
Co-pays vary from one health insurance company to the next with regards to:

-Initial consult
-Follow up visit
-PFT

Why do I need a PFT?
These tests, along with history, physical exam, & laboratory data such as bloods, CT, Chest x-ray, etc, will help Dr Foley diagnose & decide if medications may help improve your breathing. You may then be treated with inhalers or oral medication. Dr Foley may decide to do repeat monitoring which is required in many lung conditions.

Do I need an appointment to get a new prescription? No, you can phone 441-261-5864.There will be a charge for all prescription renewals of $10.
